STEP 1= open a new document 1000 px / 1000 px and fill it with white

STEP 2= create a new layer (put it in the top and name it orb), make a round shape in the middle and apply these layer effects

STEP 4= make a new layer (put it in the top and name it ellipse), create an ellipse and fill it with white, then reduce the fill to 0%

11.jpg

STEP 5= make a new layer (put it in under the layer orb and name it back shadow), use a brush with the following settings and scale it like in the picture

12.jpg

STEP 6= make a new layer (put it under the layer ellipse and name it sparkle), paint with white some dots only over the map, with a brush with these settings. Set the opacity to 70% and set “overlay”

13.jpg
14.jpg
15.jpg

STEP 7=  duplicate the layer sparkle (place it under the other layer), blur it with gaussian blur with these settings. Set the layer to “difference”

20.jpg

STEP 8= make a new layer (put it under the layer map and name it sparkle back), paint with white some dots only outside the map, with a brush with the same settings in the step 6 but with a diameter 21px. Set the layer to ”overlay”

STEP 9= duplicate the sparkle back layer (place it below the other layer) and use a motion blur with these settings. Set the layer to “overlay”

18.jpg

STEP 10= make a new layer (name it clouds and put it under the sparkle back copy layer) with the size of the orb and apply filter/render/clouds; apply the same filter a few times with ctrl+F. Set the layer to “hard light”

16.jpg
17.jpg

19.jpg

STEP 11= change the color as you want with a new filter adjustement layer (hue and saturation) and you are done!!

So I dont see my img as yours at the img after step 3.. Guess it has something to do with the thing I didnt understand!

ok you have to hit ctrl+click on the orb layer on the right to select the obr surface, then you have to select the map layer and apply the filter sferize.. if it’s not ok just email me!! hope it’s useful..

You dont mention how im supposed to get the map visible on the orb. When i follow the instructions i get two separate layers. The map layer is only a square layer with gray gradient

giackop

25.02.09 11:12 am

to apply the effect only on the orb, you have to ctrl-click on the orb layer in the little image on the left and in this way the circular selection is loaded.. ;)

15.12.09 9:37 am

Excellent, but this tutorial is an epic fail when it comes to adding the map part.

Only a PDF is supplied so the user has to mess with converting it to a suitable size in photoshop, and instructions here are also waay to thin.

wow great design

Oh my great tutorial!!! :)
Thanks for sharing.
